Email open rates climbing from 15% to 40%

You already know opens are the bottleneck. What most email help won't tell you: fixing them isn't about send times or list hygiene. It's six specific changes to the decision a patient makes in the half-second they scan the inbox. Here's each one, and what it beats.

The six principles behind the uplift

Each one paired with the common approach it outperformed on the same list.

1

Target by treatment, not by blast

A patient will always open an email about the treatment they're actually on. Someone with GLP-1 activity opens a subject line with "GLP-1" in it. We matched every message to what the patient already showed interest in.

Beats standard ESP segmentation, which splits by list and lifecycle stage but never by the treatment the patient actually cares about.

2

A number in days, not a vague promise

We named a real window. A subject line that says 30 or 90 days gives the patient a timeline to measure their own body against.

"What changes in your first 30 days" and "Where you'll be at 90 days" beat the stronger-adjective approach ("Your results are coming") that most copy reaches for first.

3

Frame value, don't shout discounts

Framing what a patient saves, and over what period, keeps you in the Primary tab where opens run far higher, and reads as worth rather than a sale.

"You'll save around $240 over your next 6 months" beats the "% off" playbook every promo calendar defaults to, which trips inbox filters and lands you in Promotions before anyone decides to open.

4

Real-life recognition beats aspiration

Copy that names what a patient is actually living through describes their week, not a brochure.

"Your partner has probably noticed the change" and "Your daughter couldn't say why you seemed different" beat the aspirational default ("Become your best self") that nearly every wellness brand sends.

5

Present tense beats future tense

Patients act on where they are now, not a version of themselves they have to imagine. Anchoring the message in the present makes it feel true today.

"The change is already happening. Here's where you are this week." outperformed the future-tense framing ("Picture yourself a year from now") that most retention copy leans on.

6

A question they can't answer without opening

An open question makes the inbox itch. When the patient can't resolve it from the preview, the only way to settle it is to open.

"Is it seasonal blues or your thyroid?" beats the statement-style subject line that gives the whole message away before the click.
